System and Modular Ramps

A single step, a high threshold, or a small elevation difference may seem insignificant, but in daily life, it can turn into a real obstacle.

For a wheelchair user, it can mean being unable to independently enter a residence or business. For an elderly person or someone with reduced mobility, it can make access more difficult and less safe. However, the same obstacle also creates difficulties for a parent with a stroller, a worker with wheeled equipment, or a business that moves goods daily.

The right ramp can, in many cases, convert an inconvenient or inaccessible space into a much more functional path.

Bibikas Special provides various solutions for thresholds, steps, building entrances, vehicles, and commercial applications, ranging from small threshold ramps to portable and modular constructions.

One or more steps at the entrance

One of the most common problems occurs at the entrance of a home, a store, an office, or tourist accommodation.

When there is sufficient space to establish a safe path, a ramp can serve as a simple and reliable solution, free of mechanical parts and with low maintenance requirements.

For a temporary or mobile solution, the iRamp – Portable can be selected. It folds lengthwise, is suitable for electric wheelchairs or three-wheeled scooters, and models in this series feature load capacities of up to 400 kg.

When the weight of the ramp itself is an important factor, the iRamp Carbon offers a particularly lightweight carbon-fiber option, with the series reported to be approximately 30% lighter than equivalent conventional solutions.

For more permanent or extended paths, there are Modular Ramps, which can be combined and built to custom dimensions according to the available space. Wider sections are also available for public areas.

Threshold ramps: when the obstacle is only a few centimeters

It does not take an entire staircase to create an accessibility problem.

A threshold at a front door, balcony door, bathroom, kitchen, or between two rooms can hinder the movement of a wheelchair, walker, or wheeled equipment.

For very small elevation differences, there are Rubber Threshold Ramps available in heights from 4 to 60 mm. They can be used indoors and outdoors, cut to the required width, and installed even without drilling into the floor.

For a more subtle aesthetic, there are Aluminum Threshold Ramps, which are installed over the existing threshold to create a smoother transition, with various finishes available.

For larger minor height differences, there are also Plastic Threshold Ramps featuring a modular design and adjustable height up to approximately 12 cm depending on the configuration. They are suitable for indoor and outdoor use and can be disassembled.

The range also includes Fixed Threshold Ramps, as well as two-section solutions suitable even for certain sliding doors.

Portable ramps when you don’t want a permanent modification

It is not always necessary or desirable to have a permanently installed ramp.

A portable solution can be useful when:

  • access is required only at certain times,
  • the space is rented,
  • the ramp needs to be used in more than one location,
  • it must be stored away when not in use,
  • you need a solution that can be transported along with the user.

In these applications, the iRamp Portable, iRamp Carbon, and Anyramp offer different options based on the required length, the weight of the ramp, and the load capacity needed. Anyramp models are non-slip portable loading ramps that fold with a single motion and are available in versions supporting loads up to 400 kg.

Ramps for strollers and everyday use

Accessibility is not just about wheelchairs.

A properly selected ramp can also make access easier for:

  • strollers,
  • walkers,
  • rolling luggage,
  • cleaning carts,
  • wheeled professional equipment.

In a hotel, store, restaurant, or service location, an intervention initiated for accessibility can ultimately improve entrance functionality for many more people.

Rubber, aluminum, or plastic solutions are suitable for small thresholds, while steps may require a portable or modular ramp.

Ramps for goods and commercial trolleys

In businesses, warehouses, and loading areas, a height difference can make transporting products difficult on a daily basis.

Anyramp products are also designed as portable loading ramps, while Bibikas Special also offers specialized Loading Ramps that can be mounted to the rear of a vehicle and manufactured to custom dimensions upon request.

Such solutions facilitate the movement of:

  • boxes,
  • goods,
  • commercial hand trucks and trolleys,
  • equipment,
  • luggage,
  • other wheeled loads,
  • always with the selection of the appropriate ramp according to weight and the specific application.

Vehicle ramps

Access does not stop at the entrance of a building.

There are also ramp solutions for vehicles, including the iRAMP Vehicle 2 or 3 Sections and specialized loading ramps, depending on the type of vehicle and intended use. The ramp category at Bibikas Special includes dedicated solutions for vehicles and loading.

Selection must take into account the loading height, available space, weight capacity, and the equipment to be moved.

Which ramp is right for your space?

There is no single ramp suitable for every case.

Before making a choice, consider:

  • the height difference,
  • the available space and development length,
  • the required width,
  • use with a manual or electric wheelchair,
  • the load capacity,
  • indoor or outdoor installation,
  • frequency of use,
  • the need for a permanent or portable solution.

The slope of the ramp is also particularly important. A solution that is overly steep may be neither user-friendly nor suitable as an accessible route.

For this reason, see also our detailed guide:

When a ramp does not fit or is not the right solution

There are cases where the required height difference, the narrowness of the entrance or staircase, and the limited available space do not permit the construction of a functional ramp.

In such cases, an alternative accessibility solution must be considered.

Depending on the space, a platform lift, stair lift, or other specialized solution may be used. For businesses where a permanent modification is not possible, there are also portable stair-climbing systems, such as the Stair Climber SA-3, which do not require permanent installation. The proper choice depends on the building and the specific requirements of the case. Official technical guidelines also provide for evaluating mechanical means when there is insufficient space for a suitable ramp.
